GEICO hoarding claim?
Catalyst Restoration coordinates with GEICO adjusters daily across MD, PA, WV, and VA. Free inspections, direct billing where allowed, no preferred-contractor pressure.
GEICO's homeowner policies are typically underwritten by partner carriers (Liberty, Progressive, ASI, etc.). The customer-facing claim experience runs through GEICO's app and portal, but the actual claim handler is whoever underwrote your policy. Once that handoff happens, the process is comparable to whoever the underwriter is — generally smooth and well-documented.
GEICO hoarding claim flow
- Step 1
File via the GEICO mobile app, geico.com, or 1-800-861-8380.
- Step 2
GEICO routes the claim to your underwriter — expect a follow-up call within 24–48 hours from the underwriting carrier.
- Step 3
Once the underwriter takes over, an adjuster is assigned and contacts you within 1–3 business days.
- Step 4
Mitigation can begin immediately. GEICO and most underwriters expect prompt action to limit damage.
- Step 5
Direct billing is generally supported through the underwriter, not GEICO directly.

Common friction with GEICO
The GEICO to underwriter handoff can add a day at the start of a claim.
We start mitigation immediately and document the loss to both GEICO and the underwriter so nothing slips through the cracks during the handoff.
GEICO's app sometimes shows the claim as "in progress" while the underwriter does the real work.
We coordinate directly with whichever underwriter is assigned to your policy — Liberty, Progressive, ASI — and document for them, not GEICO.
Tip: call us before you call GEICO
Restoration crews can be on-site within hours; an adjuster may take a day or two. The faster hoarding starts, the smaller the final loss.

It depends on your policy and the cause of loss. Hoarding itself is a gradual condition and rarely covered as a standalone claim. However, damage from a covered loss discovered during cleanup (a burst pipe beneath the hoard, for example) may be claimable — we scope covered and non-covered work separately so the claimable portion gets claimed. Either way, Catalyst documents everything GEICO needs and bills them directly where allowed.
GEICO typically assigns an adjuster within 1-3 business days. Catalyst can begin work immediately - reasonable emergency steps to limit further damage are reimbursable. Most claims close within 30-90 days depending on scope and any supplements.
Yes. Insurance carriers (including GEICO) cannot require you to use their preferred network. You have the absolute legal right to choose any licensed restoration company. GEICO pays your selected provider at the same rates as their preferred network.
GEICO expects photos from first response, a clear cause-of-loss narrative, an itemized scope in Xactimate format, documentation of the work performed, and final verification. Catalyst provides all of it and submits directly to your GEICO adjuster.
We work resident-led whenever possible. Sentimental items, paperwork, and photographs are sorted with the resident or a designated family member before any disposal.
