Progressive on hoarding losses

Progressive is one of the largest direct-to-consumer carriers. Property claims are filed through their app, online, or by phone. Adjusters typically respond within 1–2 business days for non-emergency claims. Progressive also acts as the underwriter for many GEICO and other-branded homeowner policies.

  4. Step 4

Progressive uses Xactimate for scope, which aligns with our standard documentation format.

  5. Step 5

Direct billing is supported for most restoration scopes.

Common friction with Progressive

Progressive sometimes uses third-party adjusters during high-volume periods, which can slow communication.

We document daily and email both the assigned adjuster and the third-party handler so updates reach the right person.

Progressive contents adjustments can come in low without per-item documentation.

We provide detailed contents inventories with photos and replacement-cost estimates per item — supplements are usually approved when properly documented.

Tip: call us before you call Progressive

Restoration crews can be on-site within hours; an adjuster may take a day or two. The faster hoarding starts, the smaller the final loss.

FAQ

Progressive Hoarding - FAQ

It depends on your policy and the cause of loss. Hoarding itself is a gradual condition and rarely covered as a standalone claim. However, damage from a covered loss discovered during cleanup (a burst pipe beneath the hoard, for example) may be claimable — we scope covered and non-covered work separately so the claimable portion gets claimed. Either way, Catalyst documents everything Progressive needs and bills them directly where allowed.

Progressive typically assigns an adjuster within 1-3 business days. Catalyst can begin work immediately - reasonable emergency steps to limit further damage are reimbursable. Most claims close within 30-90 days depending on scope and any supplements.

Yes. Insurance carriers (including Progressive) cannot require you to use their preferred network. You have the absolute legal right to choose any licensed restoration company. Progressive pays your selected provider at the same rates as their preferred network.

Progressive expects photos from first response, a clear cause-of-loss narrative, an itemized scope in Xactimate format, documentation of the work performed, and final verification. Catalyst provides all of it and submits directly to your Progressive adjuster.

We work resident-led whenever possible. Sentimental items, paperwork, and photographs are sorted with the resident or a designated family member before any disposal.
